Residual Expressions

Look back

One part of the mapping process is to create bridges between the memories of the experiences and the present moment. Visiting the archive of residual expression means digging into old notebooks, lost fragments of digital content, audio records, images on clouds, personal chats, dreams, and labyrinths. Each visit is actively producing what will become the map.

In one particular moment, the aesthetics, the material, and words come together and form the access points. Facades are recognizable. In the same way, parts of the map assume this role, to display in the material access points of knowledge that was build during the past experiences and in this research.

The titles of each part are the titles of the performances. This enables people that already know the work of Grupo Oito to relate what was seen with the perspective I am bringing.

Drawings illustrate formats of the pieces and sensations of what was been experienced. An abstract translation and symbolic vocabulary appeared during the research. These expressions are what come first when the words are still not possible to formulate. In another part of the map, a collection of those abstract expressions are also displayed and were necessary to elaborate the complexity of this work.

Red words are the doors to access collective experiences and propositions lived by the group where the common understanding was already at least partially elaborated.

Grey words are some aspects of personal experience, adding to the research a layer of the artist perspective influencing also the work by all the body registers that it is caring in this particular moment.
